Musicians are like private contractors, people seem to think there's a lot of money being made touring and recording, for a select few , yes, for most, no....Even" successful" bands generally get paid as they go for services. Songwriters get royalties, The players get paid for playing.. I'm constantly hearing about musicians being sick and not having insurance and needing benefits to help with costs. Some people think it's their own fault...Those people probably know self employed people in the same boat. Often, someone is ill and gets denied coverage for a pre-existing condition. What do you think...?
I think healthcare is expensive. I would love to do something more creative for work, but wouldn't be able to support myself properly. It's a choice people make- do something you're passionate about and take the risk that you won't make enough $ to pay for healthcare... It would be great to have healthcare benefits covered by taxes.
